I took my phone back to stock rom (ICS) before I started anything. Then I rooted the phone and installed My Backup Root and SafeStrap v3.12. I booted the phone into SafeStrap and hit backup. I then went through and cleared all the cache and data. Then I created a rom slot and flashed the JB rom to it. I rebooted and my phone now will not go past the bootup gif image. I have even let it sit overnight trying to boot up and it will not. I am kind of stuck right now and would be happy even if I could just get back to a Verizon Stock rom. Any suggestions?

What jb ROM did you flash. If you are trying to go to the jb ota it needs to be flashed in stock recovery.

Is there a way to use the android system recovery utility and "apply update from external storage"?

You need to be on the jelly bean kernel on your stock side first. As far as I can gather, you flashed this from ics which won't work.

Bechus you flashed a jellybean ROM while still on ice cream sand which so it will not boot..

What you should of done was..

1.downgrade back to ICS using the RAZRhd toolkit
2.root the phone/install ss3
3.go into play store and download voodoo root keeper
4.open root keeper and save your root
5.go into settings and take the jellybean ota update
6.while on jellybean open the root keeper app and restore root
7.now you should be on ota jellybean with root access
8.now try again and install the jellybean ROM that you tried to flash via safestrap..should boot with no problems
