Recently, I was sent this link to ask the US Government to make locking bootloaders illegal. I want to share this with probably the largest community that it effects everyday.

See what's funny is this is why it won't work. People will bash the idea and not be proactive in the idea and actually doing it.

I know there are tons of things that can be done with an open boot loader, and not just their select few with they deem dev versions. Come on what is that about. There are very few handsets that share enough to make a wide fix for issues. So with an open boot loader you could in a sense test fixes on a plethora of devices.

I see it as a right to the consumer? I mean you don't buy a car and then be told what you can do to it. Lol thank you for signing. I know a couple news sites said they will write stories on it to spread the word.

I agree, that would be a lease if we were talking about a car. Who leases a phone? Nobody I know of. I say lets see where this goes.

I agree, but this is not written well enough or focused properly. If there is any good of gaining traction a clear, irrefutable argument needs made. This does not provide any actionable point even as the term bootloader is not defined, which it needs to be. Appropriate approaches would begin be pointing out things like 'not allowing users to modify kernel level is a potential extreme privacy issue.' Officials do not know or care to learn how tech works, so it needs to be put into more tangible equivalents for explanation as well. There are plenty of great attorneys in the community I'm sure, leave the authoring with intention for legal reform up to them.
