I have my screen set to turn off after 2 minutes. If the phone is sitting idle, it does that. But when I am actively using the phone, I would expect that the two minute timer wouldn't kick in until the phone was inactive. And yet, I can be in the middle of scrolling, pressing buttons, etc., and the screen goes off and the phone locks! I turn it back on, continue working, and a few seconds later it goes off again. Very annoying. It doesn't always happen - sometimes activity extends the display on time - so I haven't been able to track down what is happening, but I wanted to ask if anyone can enlighten me on this issue.

sounds like a software bug. what system are you running (rom or stock)? also, what is your screen timeout settings set to [menu-settings-display-screen timeout (sleep)]? worst case scenario is that it's your proximity sensor glitching but I doubt it's a hardware issue. hopefully a data wipe would resolve it. let me know

I've had this problem on every ROM. I'm on stock 173, but stock 744 and 748 were also affected. The system has been wiped many times over time, so I don't think that's it. As I said, it's set for two minutes, but that isn't the point. The question is, why doesn't it always take into account the fact that the phone is being actively worked when it decides to turn off the screen? Proximity sensor? It correctly turns off the screen when I make a call and put the phone to my head, but if I'm not on a call I can place my hand over the screen and the display stays on.
