I ask this here because there are many experts. I have googled and googled and have not spotted an answer.

The problem
I have 2 DVR's and 2 other hd cable boxes. My company (brighthouse) charges $29 per DVR, $19 per box. $10 for HDTV per box. That $136 per month just for the boxes!

The solution
Brighthouse, among many like Dish, TWC, have apps that allow us to see cable on an ipad/Android (select devices). I have google tv android and it doesn't work there, so strike one. I can get BHTV on nexus 7 but there is no display out that i know of. What i'd like to do is replace my cable boxes with android devices. The android devices need to be able to download or sideload this app and somehow convince the application that the display is not hdmi (which it restricts). This would save me $1200 a year in box fees while allowing me access to live T.V. and netflix.

Not sure where you live, but in my state that's a felony. Good luck with that if you get caught! haha

Knowledge in and of itself is not punishable - nor is the dissemination of it unless said dissemination is specifically referred to in law.

IOW, I'm curious. I'm not planning on doing this b/c I don't watch TV other than some sporting events and the occasional SyFY offering. I already get what I need on my computer.

I don't think it's illegal in any way to simply have your ipad or tablet display it on a bigger screen. I still pay for cable and they offer their product to android devices. They just want to try and limit the screen size. I opened the code up and saw that there is an Xlarge screen size built in for 720p. It's turned off at the moment, but hints at what they may be up to.

my experience with those apps like dtv and comcast is that there is a very limited selection of what you can watch now on your mobile device, they keep it choked down pretty well. as for being able to watch it on a bigger screen, you pay for the service so knock yourself out
