This thread is to discuss the movie with spoilers.  Do not read unless you want to be spoiled or have seen the movie.

I loved the movie, there was very little wrong with it IMO.  I loved the referces to the old crew, spock's picture that showed the TOS crew, the reference to the Romulan war and the MACO soldiers from Enterprise.  Hell, I even loved the blowing up of the Enterprise.

-Krall was believable and had substance, a very good Trek villain.  His back story was great.

- Pine as Kirk was for sure believable, more so than the previous movies.

- The character development was refreshing and well done.

-Hell, I even loved the way they had to use the music to disrupt the enemy.

- New Enterprise looks great

-Loved that the text at the end of the movie was from TNG

IM sure ill come up with more thoughts

HATED the fact that they blew up the enterprise 10 minutes into the movie.  That pissed me off and set the tone for the rest of the movie for me.  Krall was alright as a villain.  I'm not sure it was super believable in a lot of ways.  Love the design of 1701-A.  There were some great moments in the movie for sure.  The music was hilarious.  I liked the girl a lot.  Great character.  "You're BREAKING MY HOME!"  LMAO  Spock and Bones had some really good moments.  "You gave your girlfriend a tracking device??"  "ummmm, s***, that wasn't really the intention here ummmm uh oh" ROFLMAO!  York town wasn't overly believable as they barely had stuff that advanced in TNG.  I get it.....the events of the first one changed things and pushed the tech forward sooner.  But Krall's tech he found on the planet was way advanced....you're telling me that in the original time line they wouldn't have found that?  That would have been devastating tech even to the borg.

I will say this much...I gave them a WICKED hard time for stealing the Khan story line in the last one and completely f***ing it up.  This was an original story and really wasn't that bad.  Overall it was entertaining even if I disagree with blowing up the f***ing ship in the first 10 minutes.  WTF

The destruction of the ship was supposed to be symbolic of the last movie in a way. We f%$ked up so here, we'll start over lol.

Yea...no.  I would have been happier if they disabled the ship for a while and had the crew repairing it for half the movie, but, to have the enterprise gone for 90% of the movie just sucked IMO.  It was a decent action movie.  I'm not sure it was much more than a glorified 60's episode though.  Without the Roddenberry Trek "feel" to it.  There wasn't any real social commentary in this one.  The beauty of Trek is marrying the two ideas...a good sci fi action flick with a sufficiently deep story that makes you think about macro issues in our present day and how we can potentially work to solve them.  This movie was missing that half of the equation.  And if this is what we can expect from the new show next year, they're in trouble.

New show has nothing to Dr with Paramount or JJ Abrams. Totally different team.

I really enjoyed the movie, loved the old school references to the romulan war and the picture of Spock.  Thought it was really cool to disrupt the "bees" ships with old school VHF band music and loved the choice of Sabotage by the Beastie Boys to do it.  Agree that Krall was a good Trek villain and liked the backstory tie-in at the end.  Liked Jaylah, the girl with the makeup, really cool character "you're breaking my house" and "they said this was supposed to take the edge off and I still have the edge".  Wonder if she winds up joining starfleet academy.

Just noticed Jeff Bezos was listed on IMDB in the cast as a "Starfleet Official", did anyone catch that?  I didn't see him, not sure what character he was or where in the movie.

Was there anything in the credits dedicated to Anton Yelchin (Chekov) who was just recently killed in that weird accident at his house?

Yes, it was dedicated to both Leonard and Anton and there was a moment of silence in the credits for them.  Very touching.  Yes, Bezos was there.  Apparently had an army of security with him when he went to go film it.
