Motorola announced their Ice Cream Sandwich
for the Droid Razr, and it won't get the update until July at the earliest. In fact, no Motorola products will get 4.0 until April at the earliest, and even then, the only device getting it is the Xoom Family Edition tablet. Other devices confirmed to get the upgrade starting in July are the Photon 4G on Sprint, Atrix 2 on AT&T and Droid Xyboard 10.1 and 8.9 tablets from Verizon. All other smartphones and tablets, including the brand new Droid 4 and still new Droid Razr, are categorized by Motorola as being in the evaluation and planning stage. That means Motorola hasn't even made up their minds about whether those devices will get the update, despite the fact Motorola has been approved for purchase by Google itself.
If it don't come to the razr....this will be the last one I buy from moto...its the main reason I bought it.along with the gorilla glass.

I am liking the gorilla glass, but my friend dropped a phone with gorilla glass 2-3 feet and it shattered. Just a reminder that scratch proof is anything but shatter proof. My Droid X was dropped regularly, and one time even went skating across a parking lot. The screen was fine.

One other thing to keep in mind folks. If you look back on the GB update rolling out for say the Droid X it was over 6months from the time Google put out the GB source code. So to think we will see anything before mid May on ICS for our devices is living in a pipe dream to be perfectly honest. Things do not happen that fast do to the amount of work they need to do to even get a build they can submit to VZW for approval. then if VZW fails it for whatever reason it is back to the drawing board for fixing. from there it goes back to VZW for approval again. And normally from submission to an approval to an actually release is 3-4 wks at minimum. So everytime an update is submitted and it is kicked back it adds another 3-4 wks to the process which is EXACTLY why they do NOT post specifics on anything like this because it is not up to them. Its carrier side based once they get a build submitted. Think about it, we have had the 6.12.173 leak since early if not earlier, and it took until Feb for them to finally push it out to us as the actual OTA.

Let me say this. You guys are freaking out over nothing and reading way to much into the info on the float. What is posted public and actually what is going on internally are 2 different things. Many ppl know me and the info I get/have. The fact is just relax ICS is coming for sure NO QUESTION, and it WILL NOT be the Q3 like the info we see posted on there site. I've had feedback lately saying we should see it long b4 Q3.

This. I wasn't going to get involved in this but everyone I know at Moto has a timetable considerably sooner than Q3.

I went to verizon to complain about this and thought i would share my experience. My beef was that the guy who sold me the Razr said that ICS would make it to the device sometime for sure. Obviously this release says that it is not guaranteed to ever be there, hence my frustration. As luck would have it, there was a Moto rep in the store when I got there. He swore up and down that the Razr will get ICS, but was unable to produce a document saying so. So, while I am disappointed in the ever changing timeline, I am now satisfied as they gave me a lapdock for half price. It was really a positive outcome as I was able to voice my discontent to a Moto employee, on top of the fact that I was compensated for my troubles.
FRICKEN SWEETTTT! You should have mentioned our locked bootloaders as well man! You may have gotten even more out of him! Grats on the lapdock man!

Sorry if I put off the wrong impression. I was in no way freaking out about an ICS OTA not coming yet. I fully understand the process having worked for a Motorola enterprise partner for years. This was over principal. The Verizon sales rep guaranteed me that ICS would come to the Razr. The fact that this press release purposely does not guarantee it will ever come makes what the Verizon rep said to me a lie. I am not a fan of being lied to. Verizon beef, not Moto. Although I still curse this locked bootloader...
I also didnt realize this would sit on the homepage, apologies. Just a little background, the company I work for is also a master dealer for ATT and VZW. I am fully aware of how software goes from coding to release. I have also been very happy with my Razr, and wouldnt take the upgrade to the GNEX that they offered. Really glad I came across this forum as well. You guys build some hella ROMs and have been very helpful in familiarizing me with my phone. Props to all the mods, admins, and devs for a job well done.
If one of you ever get a chance, check out Moto's ruggedized Android tablet, the ET1. Its still a little behind on this software platform, but its a pretty cool device.
