I am pretty radio geeky after being a ham for the last 19 years and have a ham repeater for the last 10 years. When I used to have Nextel I was able to do somethings with the phone with a patch cable (hack stuff in the phone). I also was able to find the spot in there where I could access tower data from the phone which only gave the coordinates of the tower (and of course my phones location) but I could travel around switching back and forth watching me switch from tower to tower. I know where and what most all towers are in the area so its not the matter of knowing where they are. It seems on Verizon there is a tower id that shows like 1226 but tower coordinates are always unavailable. Now I know there are apps out there like open signal and several others that claim to show the info I am looking for but it is not correct for my area at least. Like Network it shows Penn College which is about a mile away from me and sometimes it will show a network locaiton of a bank about a mile west of me according to the map. Anyway with all the hacks people do to their phones Im surprised this has not been mastered.
