Rooting would still be safe I would think, but I'll defer to someone else because I've never looked into what exploit was used. Just don't Safestrap or try to flash anything without a trusted dev verifying it is not a suicide run.

I'm looking for reliable root info on this. (BTW, I read that nTelos currently uses Sprint's network if that helps anyone help me figure out how to root.)
Here are the specifics:
ICS 4.0.4
firmware GAS_NA_GCXSPYDERNT
baseband version N_04.23.00R
Kernel version 3.0.8-ga0b5673 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Sep 28 08:23:00 CDT 2012
AP flex version GAS_NA_GCXSPYDERNT
Build number 6.7.2-180_DHD-16_NA-30
Need help from an expert to root this puppy!
Thanks, Bob

I also installed safestrap and went through some ROM flashing but kinda got scared when I couldn't find an SBF for it. I did try CM9 (I think) and ran into a boot loop problem. Lucky for me I ddi a safe backup which saved me. I may play with it some more soon, But I am kinda timid ATM until I know of some way to get a bricked phone back to Alltel stock. Gonna play with Easy-sbf and sbf_flash when I figure them out and see if I can do it from there. Just don't want a brick......

If I could get an SBF file, that would be ideal, but I'm not too worried about it. All I should have to do is uninstall Safestrap, and un-root to go back to "stock". I posted some flashable ZIP patches to make ROMs work with Alltel here, if you'd like:
I have looked at that thread and downloaded the patches but I am just a little lost. I posted something over for you to look at.

Chairwolf, rooting should be the same process. I take no responsibility for damage to your device, but if you want to follow general instructions to install Safestrap 2.11, make a backup and send me the systemorig file that will reside in your backups folder, I can try to throw together a patch for you.
Which one (from this link) do I use? I'm thinking spyder, but not sure.
thanks

What kind of issues with Safestrap? Are you using the new SS, or 2.11?

I'm a little confused. Can I install Safestrap BEFORE I'm rooted? If so, great, b/c then I can make a backup for Chris to look at. Soooo, will SS work prior to being rooted anyone?
thanks
No.... SS will not work prior to being rooted..... Sorry
