I'm having a problem no Verizon Rep or Cell Phone repair shop has been able to help with.

Last week my RAZR MAXX, which has always worked well, stopped ringing when calls came in. Additionally, when I tried to use the speaker phone while on a call - no audio.

While using apps the speaker did work, however.

I tried soft booting the phone numerous times and then did two hard resets, one through the privacy setting and the other by holding down the volumes and power keys and selecting recovery.

No change.

I took it to two local Verizon stores and a local Cell phone repair shop and all they could recommend was what I had already done.

Cell phone repair guy suggested that it must be a problem with the firmware (since the speaker works fine with apps and the vibrate function works).

I looked up replacing firmware (thanks WWW) installed minimal adb/fastboot and RSDLite5.6, downloaded the firmware from Motorola and re-flashed the phone.

I used my Google address and the phone fully restored itself and restored my backups - but -

Nothing changed. Still no ring or speaker.

I set up a new Google account, copied all my contacts into it and re-flashed the phone again using a new Google address and no backups.

Same result - nothing.

I gave up.

About six hours after the phone was re-flashed the second time I heard the bootup message ("Droid").

.

When I tried calling the RAZR - it rang.

Two days later in the middle of a Google Maps Navigation instruction the speaker function went away. A few minutes later someone called and - again - no ring.

I have re-flashed it a third time, now. I waited for twelve hours. No "Droid" sound - no ring - no speaker phone.

I haven't been able to find any solution - or even an explanation - for this on any forum or web search I have been able to imagine.

Any ideas out there?

A phone that doesn't ring is a pain.

Thanks very much.

Since you say you have indeed flashed the stock firmware again AND tried with no "other" apps installed (ruling out a rogue app).... I'm inclined to believe it is an intermittent hardware problem.... Either with the speaker itself or the main board ..... However, just for arguments sake.... You could try to "nuke and repave" via Sam's house of Moto...... But if properly flashing back to 100% stock does not cure it, then it can ONLY be a hardware issue

Thanks. I'll take a look at the nuke option.

Since the speaker is always working for apps - would your thinking be that it's the mainboard?

Seemingly dumb question...... Have you ensured in.... settings... Sounds.... Volumes that the slider for the ringer is all the way to the right?......

Not dumb - just like asking if the power is turned on - sometimes it's that simple.

This time it isn't, however.

The ringer sound level is up. All audio features work fine, apps, phone's regular speaker for conversing, vibrate, etc. - the only thing that doesn't work is the ringing and the speaker phone.
