instructions are essentially the same for gimp and photoshop:
create a 540x540 image
merge into one layer
Gimp: select Colors > Components > Channel Mixer
Photoshop: select Image > Adjustments > Channel Mixer
select Output channel: Red and change the red value from 100 to 0 and the blue value from 0 to 100
now select Output channel: Blue and change the red value from 0 to 100 and the blue value from 100 to 0
hit OK
Note: the colors will look strange but will display properly on the phone
Gimp: select file > export
name "logo.bin"
select "all files" from dropdown menu
expand the "select file type (by extension)" menu and select "raw image data"
export
Photoshop: select file > save as
name "logo.bin"
format "photoshop raw"
save
flash your logo with fastboot:
code;
fastboot flash logo logo.bin

Had to search around a little to find out how to make and install custom boot logos so thought i'd put together all the info in one spot...

save
drop your custom logo.bin into the update.zip:
XT862:
XT875:
XT894,XT912:
and flash in custom recovery
Note: The included logo.bin is og "hellomoto"
Thanks to p3droid and TBH!
Just the little rectangle with the circles and the "hello moto" letters, like on say an old V220 or V400? That's very very cool.

Hey are you sure you can flash this in recovery for the xt912 RAZR? I was under the impression that you needed to use fastboot to replace logo.bin with the new one

fastboot is one way, dd is another way.

No, if you flash this through recovery on your Razr, it will throw your phone into fastboot mode with boot failure. You will be calling Batman to save your Razr.Hey are you sure you can flash this in recovery for the xt912 RAZR? i don't have a razr so I can't say for sure, but it should work the same way as with d3 and bionic which I know both work.
If for whatever reason it doesn't work, fastbooting the stock logo.bin would fix boot failure, but that would happen only if there is security / signature check on the mmcblk1p10 partition; and if there was, then fastbooting a custom logo would cause boot failure also, which we know it doesn't.
