I know that many of us were hoping for instant gratification when Google bought out Motorola, but Google CFO Patrick Pichette has reminded us that these kind of things don't happen instantly. Pichette said that "We've inherited 18 months of pipeline that we actually have to drain right now, while we're actually building the next wave of innovation and product lines" This basically means that although Google did buy Motorola, they can't start influencing their designs for a while yet. Google has to remove Motorola's infrastructure and implement their own, which will take a while. "These are not easy transitions," Pichette says.
Motorola's recent phone releases, such as the Droid RAZR MAXX HD and RAZR M, are "not really to the standards that what Google would say is wow — innovative, transformative." according to Pichette. Google is admitting that these phones don't necessarily live up to Google's standards. This is understandable considering the fact that the Google-Motorola relationship was still quite young when these phones came along.
So what does this mean for Motorola's upcoming phones, like the X Phone? We can hope that Google will have a big enough influence on this phone to get it up to their standards. Then again, this could be another phone that is released before Google can really get things going with Motorola.
