Here's the situation...I bought my parents an iPad, and I also have an iPad, but experienced a lot of hesitation and freezes when testing out Facetime with my brother. I also am looking for something that will allow me to video chat even if I don't have the iPad handy. I was hoping to find something that uses a little less bandwidth as my parents internet connection is in fact AT&T HSPA+ (no other option for them except dial up). The iPad recognizes the connection as wifi which is why Facetime allows the call, but I think it's trying to push too much data.
So in looking for a replacement to FaceTime I considered Skype, however Skype is very poorly implemented on the Maxx and I doubt it'll get updated/fixed any time soon, if at all.
That left me with OoVoo and Tango. Tango seems to be implemented nicely on Android in that it doesn't have to be running in the background as it uses push notifications. I'm not sure if that's the case on the iPad.
I don't have much experience with OoVoo but one advantage it seems to have is that there is a Mac client. I think Tango is working on a Mac client but no idea of ETA. This is not a deal breaker for me, however. I would like it on Mac, but don't have to have it.
So what do you use, do you like it, and why?
Thanks.

BTW, did you download the skype that's on the play store or use the stock one? The download is much better than stock.

Skype is certainly the better recognized name but I'll be able to install whatever I want on the iPad before handing it off. So really just looking for the best quality and implementation.
I do like that Tango does not have to be open in order to work. It has push notifications.

I'm encouraged...if Tango "works nicely" on Edge I may be able to have some acceptable video chats with my parents.

Yes, Skype is terrible on edge. Tango is acceptable.vash_h: Are you saying Skype is really bad quality on Edge?
