Greetings everyone!

Our friends at Motorola have begun a soak test for a new software release for the RAZR M. Yes, the device that JUST had a bootloader unlock exploit released. From the information that we've gathered this is not the elusive Android 4.2 release but a smaller "service release". There are a few, very important items to point out:

- This release may or may not fix the exploit that Dan discovered to unlock the bootloaders

- We do NOT know if this release will break root

- The DR.com staff recommends NOT taking this OTA when it pushes until we can ascertain EXCATLY what this release "fixes"..

Again, as stated before, there are only a small pool of root exploits that remain so, if you value root privileges on your device, best to err on the side of caution and wait until we know exactly what this release does.

If you don't have any plans to unlock your bootloader and you wish to take the update, please PRESERVE ROOT WITH VOODOO before you take the OTA

If you're device is unlocked and you want to keep it that way, DO NOT TAKE THE OTA/SOAK. Dan is a wizard but if they patch the vulnerability that allowed the bootloader to be unlocked, there is NO guarantee that you will be able to unlock it again.

We'll continue to keep you all posted as the situation develops....

I thought djrbliss stated Motorola could not relock the boot loader with a software update. He said it was impossible to relock it at all due to the physical nature of the switch that's blown to unlock it. I could be wrong, and I'm sure at the very least the OTA will break root.

IMO I don't think it will relock it but make it so it can't be unlocked. That's just my guesse though

That would be correct. And since we dont know what it does, it could take root from you if you have it already.

If anyone actually does receive the soak please pull it and post so we can start tearing it apart. If you dont know how to pull an update just ask or use Matts updater puller app. Nice plug for mattlgroff there ;)
But I strongly encourage that if you receive the soak you do not install until our wonderful devs dissect the crap out of it.

Installing any update after your device is unlocked is very silly, imo. I too doubt a phone could be relocked, but I also doubted someone could crack the bootloader without help from moto. Installing an update to your phone if it isn't unlocked seems even sillier. I need a razr m or razr HD asap.

I'd assume it either blocks the exploits or reverts them. Been trying to explain on XDA that any new OTA or new leaked fastboot should never be applied now, especially when using RSD. Moto has a habit of releasing fixes that only fix the holes...BL7 Defys anyone? Some understsnd, some don't. Sadly, I expect a fully unlocked noob to take the OTA and we'll find out that way. No matter how many warnings we give, ya can't fix stupid.

Yeah. just don't take the OTA. Who cares if they can or can't relock it? What they can do is stop the unlocked ones from every being unlocked AND what there's no reason to accept updates from Mota/VZW. Let the devs pick them apart and you can then all enjoy roms, even stock ones with the updated software.

If you already are unlocked, I wouldn't be concerned about rooting anymore. It's as simple as flashing a zip in recovery now. But still...no OTA's. Ever.

Does it re-lock or prevent unlocking? Has anyone examined it yet?
