It is safer to use the charger and cable that came with your phone.
Many others may work.
One cable that will not work is a LG cable.

For the most part shouldn't be a problem, but you may notice your screen acting wonky with a different charger. Although my gf did toast her T-bolt using a VZW charger.

Usually its not a problem. Look on the charger thatcame with it and it will say something like 1v or 5v. If you want to be safe you can use any charger with the same voltage

So being that it's a USB charger with the cube on the end, the length of the cable itself doesn't matter, does it? I can just swap out the one it came with for a longer cable to go with the cube?
I use my Kindle cable for charging since its a lot longer. However, when programming/flashing, you definitely want to use the real Moto cable, otherwise you may have problems.

I generally use the charger the phone came with but I've used lots of different chargers. . I can't even begin to guess how many. If it charges a phone and it plugs into my phone, I'll use it if I have to. LOL. I've never had any problem so I don't lose much sleep over it. I say use whatever is available. Some will disagree but I've had my phone over a year now and it's still running just fine.

I had a spare Motorola charger from a wireless headset that I used for a while because the cable was longer. It charged the phone just fine, but as Nanniepoo just talked about, the screen was very sporadic. Sometimes it would not even recognize the presses or swipes, other times it would press in different places. It was very weird and to be safe I switched back to the OEM charger that came with the phone. It stinks because the cable is short, but I don't experience any of those issues with it. In a pinch, I keep that charger for trips or emergency charges.

I use my Kindle charger as well for the same reason. I noticed that sometimes when I transfer files with it, it will suddenly disconnect from the computer. Not the cable itself, just it's connection, and will come back a second later. I don't know if it's the cable, my computer or phone. I usually use a Moto cable for transfers anyway though.
