OTA Fail Please Help

Best Answer matjmonk , 26 April 2013 - 08:40 AM

I think at this point you would be best off doing an FXZ using the HoB utility to reset the phone back to stock ICS. Here's the link to the main forum: http://www.droidrzr....ouse-of-bionic/

Here are the steps I would suggest:

1. Read all the information on how to use the HoB utility + the FAQ's

2. FXZ (keeping data) with the HoB utility.

3. root using HoB

4. protect root using HoB

5. reboot the phone and use the Voodoo utility (installed when you rooted with HoB) to protect root

6. test that root is protected by using Voodoo to do a temporary un-root and then restore root with Voodo

7. use Voodoo to temporarily un-root (I've read this is not always necessary, but it should be the safest way to proceed)

8. as long as the test in #6 succeeded, take the OTA

9. restore root with Voodoo after JB is installed, if Voodoo fails use HoB to restore root.

Good luck

I have a rooted Bionic running ICS and using VooDoo OTA Rootkeeper to keep root for JB.

I unfroze all apps and even temp unroot but still get update failure.

Any ideas??

What error messages did you get? If you're running safestrap you will need to uninstall recovery but you can leave the app in place.

No safestrap

I do have ClockworkMod recovery installed.

Does that have to be removed??

Will it remove it self when I uninstall Clockwork?

It didn't give me a specific error message

yes you will have to uninstall clockwork. I'm not sure how that's accomplished since I haven't run it in a long time but I would start by opening up the app and seeing if there is an option there to uninstall.

Uninstalled Clockworkmod still will not take the OTA update.

It displays "The Software update failed"

Looks like you are going to have to fastboot back to stock ICS.

You may have to either delete the hijack that bootstrap uses or fxz back to 246. Its been a while but I think the hijack is in the preinstall partition. I also used to delete app data for bootstrap before uninstalling the app. Not sure if that's necessary but I did it anyhow.

Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

Sorry I meant out of the box stock. You can try just doing a factory reset. Or you may need some House of Bionic Fxz help.

Rsd lite or hob. You can fxz straight to JB or back to ICS but you will have to reroot. That's why I mentioned trying to delete the hijack so you can protect root.

I don't have bootstrap installed.

Then what clockwork recovery do you have. I was thinking the only 2 options were safestrap or bootstrap.

Use a root explorer app and loom for hijack in the preinstall folder. If there is one there delete it.

Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

I think at this point you would be best off doing an FXZ using the HoB utility to reset the phone back to stock ICS. Here's the link to the main forum:

Good luck
