if you run:
or while booted
Is it even seeing your device? Let's start here as it sounds like it's not even seeing the phone. But let me know.

$./adb devices

I can run adb commands while booted but it doesn't see my device while in fastboot I'll try that fastboot command when I get home too make sure

yes please tell me if it reports seeing your device with the "devices" command.
FWIW:
hmm, I've seen this before. And while my go-to answer is to say "drivers" this is normally only a Windoze problem. Idk where to start with this. I've seen it before, but have yet to see the solution. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful.
Try the "devices" command while booted in Fastboot and report back
