Has anyone successfully used one of these apps to stops ads on their Razr? I was so happy with no ads when I had my HTC Incredible when going to Youtube but now I'm going crazy! I've tried both of them, and their "alternate" locations for changing the host file, but neither of them work. There has to be some way to do it. HELP!!!

I use adfree and it works well. I barely ever see an ad. I don't use the symlink option. Just check daily and auto update.

Ive tried adfree and most ads still get through. Not sure why its different. I'm trying the rom toolbox route to see if that makes a difference.

Edit: Well Rom toolbox isnt working either. I set it up, rebooted, and still have all ads showing up.I wonder why my phone is being stupid. Really annoying. I have a rooted phone that I should be able to block ads on and it wont work.

I used adfree for the longest time, had a fair amount of ads leak through but it blocked most.

Adaway has blocked all that I have seen. It is awesome. I would recommend using it over adfree.

weird that it's not working for you though..

You downloaded and installed the hosts right?

I've never had any issue with ROM Toolbox.

I used to use adfree, some ads still would get through. now I'm using adaway. I'd say about 98% of ads are blocked.

ad-free blocks links that are clicked through sites like slickdeals. how do i stop that? like when i go to slickdeals and see a deal i like, i click on the link which usually leads me to another site but ad-free blocks that process because i guess after clicking on the slickdeals link, it goes through an ad first, then takes me to the deal site. how do i prevent this from happening? is adaway the same?

I used to use adfree but now use adaway. I prefer adaway cause it blocks many ads that adfree failed to. I also found no success with Rom toolbox.

I've used adfree before, I will not recommend it. It didnt do what it was supposed to do. I am using adaway and its great, so far I haven't seen any ads. Great app.

I used to use the ad blocker that comes with ROM Toolbox (Pro).

More options than most, and I never had an ad slip through while I was using it.

But, I stopped because I realized that those ads are what supports the app developers. Imagine if you had to pay for every single app? So I figure since the ad space is already there I may as well help the devs.

is there anyway to stop adaway from blocking slickdeals redirects? like if i try to click on a deal on slickdeals site, it has to go through a redirect but i guess adaway blocks it. i'm not sure if you guys know what i am talking about but i hope someone has the answer. thanks.

I use Adfree and love it. I was not aware when I first started using it that you should log onto the website and ad hosts to make it work better. After doing that, if I look in Rom Toolbox, there are now over 200,000 blocked URLs. I love Rom Toolbox but if you use it alone, it doesn't block much. Once you install the host files from Adfree, then Rom Toolbox will automatically show how many new URLs are blocked. And in RT I keep the checkmark on "block porn" (yes you can still watch porn even with it checked LOL).

There are still some ads that get thru. Mainly on apps like gtunes. I haven't found anything to block ads in that or other music downloaders.

Side note in reference to ad-blocking. Whenever I use FoxFi to use wifi on my computer/other devices it blocks ads there too....I though I was crazy at first but then I turned it off and rebooted everything and ads came back. Just a helpful tip if you don't already use an ad blocker on your computer.

Unfortunately, most of those ads do not support developers. I'm an app programmer, I know. Those ads come through cookies, just like spams on your desktop PC.

I have used Adfree for about six months. And I change roms about once a week. Adfree has always worked for me flawlessly in two taps every time. I even freeze it after each update of the host file. Needless to say I am rooted. Og Razr. I never see an ad in browser...apps...anywhere on my phone.
