I found a zip file for an updated kernel dated 3.22.2013 (xt907-4.1.2radio.zip), but I have been unable to get it to stick. my process has been:
boot into recovery (TWRP)
mount system
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
reboot recovery
mount system
install xt907-4.1.2radio.zip

the installation reads "successful", and upon reboot into the system, it reads "updating android"...

but my kernel version/date remains the same (same baseband too).

rikrong has given me some pointers too, but to no avail. I'm wondering if i am missing a step.

any help, please?

thanks!

I am at a pretty good loss here, too.  One thing, though, don't mount system before wiping.  Just go into recovery and straight into wiping cache/dalvik, then reboot recovery and mount system before flashing.  Also, try this file that Tim posted.  I think it's the same one that I sent you and that you've already tried, but it never hurts to try again. ;)

Thanks. I now noticed that my baseband changed. So thanks for your help rikrong.
And I guess that is more of a radio update rather than a kernel?

I think I was only looking at the kernel and not the baseband. But if that is the only thing that updates, then I guess I'm good.

Yeah, that's the only thing that will update.  You need to flash the boot.img to get the kernel to update.  The new baseband looks good.

The radio or the kernel? The new kernel supposedly improves WiFi connectivity. Not sure what the new radio improves.

updating just the radio was not a good idea.  my phone struggled to maintain a 4G connection and drained the battery very quickly.

Really?  I had no issues with it.  I'm not sure what to tell you.  You can fastboot and completely install 4.1.2, then flash a 4.1.1 boot.img to use Energy.  Actually, a complete fastboot sounds like a good idea.  After flashing the radio, I never had issues with 4g connectivity and got improved reception in low reception areas at work (read, 1x areas now getting 3g).  You might want to just start clean.

As for the stock boot.img for 4.1.1, I think there's one linked in the MRage and Flying Jelly threads.

Id have to agree with Rik, as fae as my experience goes so far. The new radio is the only part if the update that has been flashed to my phone so far. Battery seemed to have stayed about the same, but signal has improved noticeably. I work in a concrete building on a fringe 3g/4g area, and it my data seems more consistent in more parts of the building now. Also stronger sign up and down Tue coast in solid 4g areas.

well, it was not a good experience for me.  I do live in a relative weak 4G area - but I have not had that kind of battery drainage (down to 37% after just 5 hours) since being on my Samsung Droid Charge.
