I'm going to try and flash Flying Jelly bean tonight (my first time flashing a custom ROM on my Bionic), I'm rooted and installed Safestrap 3.11 last night.

(1) Do I need a particular size or class SD Card?   I'll need to buy a new one as my only SD has Win32 images on it that XDA suggests I keep as is for my Nook Color.

(2) Once I flash, can I delete the ROM files from the SD card?  I'd kept the CM10 rom zip on the sd card mounted in my nook and that was causing booting problems, I didn't know initially, at least with the Nook, I'm supposed to delete the zip once installation is complete through CWM.  Not sure if the same principle applies to the Bionic.

(3) Can I unmount the SD card once I'm all set up?  I back up everything on DropBox and/or my external hard drive and don't normally use an SD card.

(4) I assume I should put my Titanium back up file on the ext-sd before flashing?

Thanks.

Wish me luck.

1 and 4:
no you only need one large enough to hold all the files you want. personally i have a 32gb class 10, all of my titanium backup files do reside on the sd card with zero compression so i can just pull an apk anytime i want.

2:
No you always want to keep all your rom and apk files on the sdcard. its cheap insurance if you need to quickly reflash the system img. again i personally have a "hacking" folder with directories: ROMs, apk's, .zips, misc. i can keep all the apks, roms, and themes handy and orgnized for when ever there needed. total i think i only have 2gb in my "hacking" folder.

tip: keep you superuser app, titanium backup, and rootexplorer apk's on your sd card

3: its not really worth un mounting each rom slot is going to really eat up the storage on you internal, id recomend using your external as you used to use your internal.

Thanks, Kaos, just saw your reply. So much to learn, but I'm getting there. The Kelly/Jelly - now you're bringing back memories from grade school, lol. Let's hope it's not smelly jelly, I'm determined to do this. May need to give the kids a shot of Benadryl and get them to sleep early. Joking, of course.

Best $3 I spent today!

Kelly has Jelly, my first flash on the Bionic, relieved and excited.  Posted one question in the ROM thread and I should be good to go.  Not exactly sure how restoring Titanium back up works and afraid to push my luck tonight (and Flying Jelly has different Superuser - maybe it doesn't matter?)  I'll check out the theming tomorrow, too tired now.  Can't wait for Jayrod's black and chrome which I now may like better than Bama's white/blue much to my surprise.

Restoring anything system related often will cause issues, but you shouldn't have issues restoring apps/data. If you find yourself crackflashing a lot, make frequent backups of your apps and data. Otherwise, you'll have a crap ton of apps to update in the play store, and recent changes to data will be gone

This is my first Titanium backup restore and I'm thinking I may have missed a setting.  With each application it first prompts me to ask if I want to install it, I click install, next, do I want to open it or am I done, I click done and it proceeds to the next app.  With 213 apps, it's a bit slow-going.  If this is the norm, fine, looks like I only have to do this once after flashing a new ROM, but I can't help but think there must be a more efficient way to restore?  Thanks.

Yeah that's because you have the free version. The paid version is automatic

Well, I'll be remedying that immediately. One last question, where would I find the restore file for text message history?  That hasn't come through I suspect due to the message that my 8 gb sd card is out of memory and I was prompted to manage apps and move some things to internal storage.  I guess the first time is the real learning curve.  Thanks for responding so quickly, much appreciated.

Hmm... I am pretty sure there is an option for texts but I am not positive what it is. But if you did not specifically save them that way prior to flashing then it will not have any info to restore...

I found this article on back-ups specific to texts messages, which of course, I didn't do.  I'm thinking if I go back to stock, create the back up, then I can probably import it Flying Jelly from my SD (after I pay for my Pro version).  Sharing this link in case it's helpful to someone else on this forum.  Thanks, again.

Yes, going back to Stock (after getting the license for TB) and backing up the text messages will work fine. Then go back to FJ and restore, works fine. Then whenever you get ready to flash another ROM back up the text messages and your good to go. I've managed to save texts from over a year ago using this method despite bouts of constant crack-flashing.

Kelly, also consider going into menu > preferences in TiBu and change your backup folder to your sd-ext. You can also use TiBu to move user apps to the sd card. Finally, in app manager move your photos and music to the sd card. All of that will free up your internal memory immensely
