Always assume you will lose root.

Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper works to retain root through this update. It's free, just d/l it, protect root, temp unroot & update. Once you boot up from the update just restore root & you're GTG.

I was half asleep when the notification came and accepted the update before doing that. Voodoo does not seem to be working.

Are you saying Matt's tool works on '181' as well?

Yes matt's tool works. I was in the soak and therefore went back to stock 173 unrooted to make sure no problems arose while trying to get 181 pushed to my phone and was able to use matt's 1.51 tool (essentially motofail) to root 181.

OTA Rootkeeper works fine. it does its job on this update, however i have noticed that it is not reporting back that the device is rooted. All of my root apps work fine however, so I must be rooted. I usually just restart a second time and VOR updates fine. Nothing happening this time around. But at least I have root!

EDIT: Use the terminal line codes on this page to restore root and make VOR report back properly

Cool, thanks guys and Matt. Tonight I will reroot with 1.51 this evening. If that current work I will go back to 173 and reload everything.

Just pulled the update. Used OTA rootkeeper, temp unroot, installed, reboot, restore root with OTA rootkeeper and all is well!

Was unrooted on .173, OTA 181, then rooted via Matt's 1.51 option 2 and it worked ;)
