quick question....... on the "repo sync" part, against your advice i actually sat and watched (curious as to what exactly it was doing) but i expected it to take quite a while but instead it was finished (no erros that i saw) in about 40 min...... curious as to if that seems like a reasonable time or has something gone wrong (before going on to the next step)
also..... to work on another one will i need to "repo sync" again, or just start off at the next part (building the system)
repo sync depends on your computer and internet speed. If you have tons of RAM and and super fast internet then yes it can be that fast. If you don't then chances are something went wrong. I would try to go through the steps again to double check.
Anytime there is an update to the source, you will need to repo sync again. So yes, do it every time you are making a new build.

well...... with only 4G RAM i don't expect too much LOL..... but 30M internet probably makes up the difference
so if i build basically "back-to-back" (i plan on doing two today) there should be no need to repo sync again, unless an update is put out in the next couple of hours
thanx sir

I'd like to add that I only have 3G of ram, Intel Quad Core @2200mhz, and 10mbps down (1mbps actual). Takes me about an hour and a half to two hours to sync and around 2 hours to build -- and I watch movies while compiling (vdpau). I think the biggest tip would be to install an XFCE or LMDE based Ubuntu or Debian. I use Debian Testing with Siduction's XFCE and couldn't be happier. Either desktop should free up much needed ram since Gnome3\Unity and KDE are ram hogs.
With my net speed, repo sync -j4 seems to be my sweet spot. If your internet is faster increase it and if slower than lower it -- the number is the max amount of simultaneous downloads.
@BigDaddyHicks -- if I read that right, you have 12G of ram...why not set up an 8G ramfs as your build out directory. That should seriously speed up your compile times since nothing will have to be written to disk. Just remember to copy your rom somewhere before you power down or you'll lose it. My 3G of ram is plenty for android compiles and multitasking, so doing a 4\8 split shouldn't hurt in that department.

You're getting way too technical for me lol.

Smart guy. I've seen your repos forked off of razrqcom-dev-team as well.
Nice job, you really have some knowledge under your belt.

Hey BDH,
Dont forget to add in the ./get-prebuilts command before . build/envsetup.sh. Then lunch, then make -jx bacon.
This has made this guide work flawlessly just adding that command! Thanks again for this awesome guide!

So you have managed to to build android using a 3G ram RamFS for the 'out' directory and you didn't fill it up during the compile? That would be great information to share publicly.
Edit: I've done it with 8-12Gig RamFS on a box with 16Gigs, still filled up, so that's why I'm curious.
