Ok so I changed my boot animation using the app called boot animations. I am attempting to restore back to the factory boot animation, with NO success. I have tried the method of downloading the animation zip file and the audio .ogg and copying them into the /system/media folder. This does absolutely nothing and when I reboot the modified animation is still there. Can someone please help. I am running twrp if that helps. I would love if someone had a file that I could just flash with twrp and be done with it but I am guessing this is the one thing that can't be that easy. Thanks in advance to anyone who pitches in on this.

Check data/local for a boot animation

each time I copy a bootanimation from to the system/media folder, it works fine.  what you might have to do is (after making a nandroid) flash a stock ROM (like Tim's base ROM), and then copy that file to your external folder for safe keeping.

Also, make sure you are setting the correct permissions after you move the animation over to the correct folder.

What do you mean setting the correct permissions... where would I find that?

OK and how will I know what the correct permissions are? Should I just use the same ones as the current animation even though its a modded animation?

FYI, if you want some custom boot animations though, you could try one of these:

How did you flash the zip?

Just flash in recovery.

Didn't work for me why I'm asking. Did you have to mount everything? Also I'm flashing to the stock ROM if that's the issue.

I don't think it matters which ROM you are using (as I think this was made before the 4.2.2 release).

but my process was:

download file

move file to mnt/external folder

mount everything

wipe cache

wipe dalvik

install zip

reboot system

I apologize, I was thinking about the boot logo. You flash the boot logo in recovery. For the boot animation, you just move it to the same folder as your stock boot ani. DL the .zip, rename stock ani with "bak" at the end, move the animation you downloaded to the same folder as stock, and set the correct permissions.

Just tried moving the downloaded boot ani to system media and always fails. Not sure what's up with that. Renaming the stock ani with bak doesn't stick for whatever reason. Seems fairly straightforward so not sure why it won't move.

This zip is different. It should flash via TWRP. Otherwise, you could unzip it on your PC, then copy the boot animation.zip file to your phone. Move that file to your media folder.

If it fails to copy to /system/media .... then chances are your file explorer does not have root abilities..... if there is an option to "mount as r/w" then you need to do that before copying files..... or you could put it on your computer and push via adb .....

JCO is right, I forgot about that step. You need to unzip original file and get to the bootanimation.zip inside it and move it to your system files. Sorry, it's been a while since I've changed mine, and I forgot about it.
