I've really been missing the hardware camera button from my old Droid X and i've been exploring options on how to quickly access the camera on my Razr. I was poking around in some of the settings (NOTE: This was on the 84 ICS leak, but should work on all ICS builds) and came across the Accessibility page. At the very bottom of this page, it allows you to set an action for "double home launch." You can choose from a variety of options, including the camera!

So basically: System settings->Accessibility->double home launch->Camera.

It's been working great so far. And while it's not as great as a fully dedicated button, it's still a lot better than nothing.

I just use widget locker and have camera access on my lock screen.

I actually don't use a lockscreen, so that wasn't an option for me. But good call though.

I use swipe pad, that works great...though no way of taking it other than the screen

The Camera360 app allows you use the volume button (either will trigger). Overall, I like the app much better than stock. It just takes better pictures; stock gets so blurry.
