This is a simple (hopefully)  How-to free up space on your internal storage

This method should work with all devices that offer both internal storage and an external SD card, however, for the purposes of this guide, this walk through will be geared towards Safestrap Users.

Prereqs:

USB Cable

Latest Drivers for your device

A computer running Windows OS

About 20-30 minutes of your time

If using safestrap, MAKE SURE YOU ARE BOOTED INTO STOCK ROM FOR THIS....

Step 1.  Connect your phone to computer using USB cable, and select "MASS STORAGE" on your phone

Step 2. Create a folder on your computer to make your backup (I usually name mine SDCARDS_<current date>)

Step 3. Close the "autoplay" windows that typically pop up when you connect.

Step 4. Click Start button

Step 5. Click computer (or "my computer" if on XP)

Step 6. Right click on the storage you want to backup (windows will "see the internal and external storage as drives, and assign a drive letter

There are normally 3 new "drives" available one is MotoCast,(which will not be backed up) and the other two are your phone's storage(s)

You should be able to easily identify them by their size )

Step 7. Select "COPY" from the menu

Step 8. Navigate to the folder you created, open it, then Right click and select PASTE from the menu.

The reason for doing it this way instead of opening the "drive" and using copy/paste is that this way makes more of a complete copy,

meaning it will copy necessary hidden files as well

This will take some time depending on how much data is being copied

Now that that is done:

Step 9: Unplug your phone

Step 10. On your phone, go to Menu > System Settings > Storage

There you will find the option to erase internal storage

You will get a warning about losing all data

Step 11. Select Format Internal Storage

When that is finished, connect to your computer again. (in MASS STORAGE)

Step 12. Click on Start button....

Step 13. Click Computer (or MY COMPUTER for XP)

Step 14. Locate the Internal storage, double click to open it (you should only see a few files there now)

Step 15. Go back to the folder that you pasted your files to, find the Safestrap folder and right click on it, select "COPY" from the menu

Step 16. Go back to your open internal storage, right click inside the folder and select PASTE.....

We want to do the safestrap folder first simply because it contains your ROM slots. Without it, none of your ROMs will boot

If you have made backups using safestrap, they will be in a folder called TWRP.... it is not required to copy this to internal ( if it was there to begin with) They can be copied to your External storage (SD card)

Typically any music, movies, pics, etc can be placed on your external SD card so they will not use space on internal......

When you are satisfied with what you have copied (and the remaining free space) we'll move on to the next steps.

Step 17. Power off your phone

Step 18. Power the phone back on and boot into safestrap ... from there you will wipe cache AND dalvik cache ON ALL CURRENT ROM SLOTS

BEFORE REBOOTING NORMALLY

When that is done, fully boot into stock first (as a precaution) from here you can check to make sure everything is working properly

You should now have a considerable amount of free space on your internal storage.

Hope this guide helps anyone that is having issues with low internal storage. If you see anything wrong with the instructions, or would like to make a suggestion, please comment here!

Notice it mentions...Need to be in Stock ROM...

Rooted or Hard Stock

If your on Safestrap your Stock Rooted...Right....Or do you need to be Hard Stock (Not Rooted) for this to work
