Hello, new to the Droid razr phones recently and never used any sort of Lock on my previous iPhones. I wanted to make sure if my phone was stolen nobody could use it or gain access to anything on the phone.

Went into settings and first tried to set up a Screen Lock. I don't understand this, because when I powered off and then back on, there was a key in a circle and it was flashing or blinking. All I had to do was swipe the key and I was there on the Home page or Desktop.

So that did not stop anything or anyone from gaining access?

What sort of LOCKING set up should I use and how to do that, so that it is NOT annoying or time consuming for me but will stop anyone from using my  phone?

Thank You,

Jeff

You need to choose another option besides screen lock. Pattern, pin etc... That will do it for you

Thank You Memnoch73. I did set up a PIN but unchecked that set-up because I did not want to use it everytime I power up the phone.

I'll figure it all out or mainly what feels best for me, but really wanted to understand what the Screen Lock is for or what it does, since a simple swipe of the Key takes you to the home page or desktop screen. So it seems it is useless.

It's just the default setting. It's not security. Just like slide to unlock was on your "other" phone. Lol...

If you are really worried about security, you could get an app like lookout which allows you to remotely lock/wipe your device if you suspect it was stolen/lost.
Otherwise, screen locks are the same across the board.

IF its your apps your also worried about you can get app locker off of the play store you can lock all the apps you want with a pattern or pin if you only want certain things secured on your mobile device such as Gallary, Messages etc. (:
