Ahh gotcha. The wife and I share 700 minutes and have unlimited texting. She has a feature phone (which I made verizon remove the data charge since she doesn't use data) and I have my unlimited data.

We will keep that for the next two years and then be done with verizon. I really don't NEED 4g data and as long as my GPS works where I need it to then I am fine. any where I travel for work will have coverage at the airport and I will make my corporate office "sprlurg" for a wifi hotel (The guy that books our hotels is a cheap sob lol)
So if I have to go with sprint or prepaid so be it.

I like the new data plans.

Currently 4 smartphones with 2GB Data features on unlimited.

$50.00 Base plan
$49.99 x 4 phones = $199.96
$30.00 x 4 Data features = $120.00

Total =$369.96

New Plan

$90.00 = 8GB Data

$40.00 x 4 Smartphone =$120.00

Total = $210.00

$369.96 - $210.00 = $159.96
Thats a crazy amount of savings!

Unless I am miss reading the new pricing structure.

After having read this thread and several others devoted to this topic, only one thing is absolutely clear: we are all slightly more bow legged now......

I can't seem to find it, does grandfathering end on the 28th? Both our lines are eligible, but I just bought a used razr a few months back but the wife needs a phone and I don't want to lose the unlimited. Do I have to upgrade her before the 28th?

Yes, is she has unlimited, you should upgrade her before the 28th. Street the 28th you will have two options.

1. Pay lower price of phone and lose unlimited.

2. Keep unlimited but pay full price for phone.

To anyone whom thinks that their bill will be reduced with this new pricing layout, refer to Verizon's calculator below...

Interesting, mine would be cheaper. 3 smart phones, 1 feature. Unlimited talk & text, 10GB shared data. $250. Cheaper than what I pay now. Thanks for posting this.

One thing people need to consider is to accurately compare the two plan. You need to make sure that mobile data tethering and unlimited text and talk to your old plan. This way you are comparing apple to apple and orange to orange.

I'm paying

You may want to redo your math. 4 phones at $40 a month is $160 not 120 and according to the Share Everything Calculator 4 smart Phones and 8GB Data is $250 a month, that looks like an increase of $40 a month.

So will we be forced onto one of these plans unless we buy an unsubsidized device a la the unlimited data policy or is this completely separate? It seems to screw over single account holders who use very few voice minutes. :(

You won't be forced to go to a shared plan. Reading on the Verizon page that's linked to, it states you can still get a stand alone plan starting at $30 a month for 2 gigabytes. Haven't looked into it enough to find out the pricing plan for higher amounts of data but apparently, as they say "starting at", higher data packages will be available.

You're not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone.
