You can fully upgrade to JB :)
There are more ROMs that are fully supported for JB ....

Most (if not all) ICS ROMs are no longer supported....

Are you using the usb cable that came with the phone? you cant be using a usb 3.0 port and do you have the latest drivers?

Those are the usual culprits when it cant see the phone.

You can also try to unplug the phone at that point and plug it back in to see if it recognizes it

Well well, I got it in fastboot mode. It wasnt successful and now I cant get it to normal mode. It just goes to the fastboot screen. Have I bricked my phone?

If a flash falls at any point the device will always boot into fastboot until you flash something successfully. So don't worry..

You can try RSDlite (included in the utility) download the sbf/fxz file from here

Some have had better luck with it as opposed to the utility

As Kaos said, we just need to get something to flash properly. I would try the Utility again, or do as john said and try RSD to flash the phone.

If you have access to Linux or Mac you could try it there.... (I have seen quite a few failures on windows lately) Typically the first two fastboot commands of the utility .... and if they fail the phone will not boot.... "... try not, do! or do not! there is no try..."

Install RSDlite to computer..... then put phone in fastboot.... connect to computer .... in RSDlite you will see a button that looks like this "..." press it, navigate to where you put the sbf file you downloaded..... select it and hit "decompress and start flashing" ....

Everything should run automatically from there ....
