So I have a backup of my Stock ROM through SS. Can I change my icons on my status bar without it being deodexed or must I run a custom rom?
Also, is there anyway to make the background of my status bar and softkeys row opaque and Black? On stock ROM.

Most of those mods need deodexed.
There is my "tough to read but worth the effort" ,for ss too, restore thread @ xda where by you may get to stock deodexed with all your apps/data .
There is also a play app : softkeyz to change the look only.
