Hey guys, I can't seem to get Android 4.3 based ROMs to boot a second time.  So far I have tried 3 different Carbon Nightlies and a CM 10.2 and all of them boot fine the first time and once I try to reboot, the phone will not get past the red M logo.  I'm not nearly as much of a noob at this as my profile suggests,  I know I am doing everything right as far as wiping and flashing so I'm not sure why this is happening.  Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem.  Tried the 8/31, 7/6 and 7/7 builds of pacman 4.3 on TWRP 2.5 and 2.6, no go, stuck on the boot logo after the first reboot.  I tried restoring a backup of pacman 4.2.2 after this happened and it wouldn't get past the boot logo also (yes, I wiped everything).  Ended up having to SBF.  Any known issues with TWRP and 4.3 roms?  I haven't been able to find anything on the interwebs...

I had that issue with Pac, and was able to get 8/26 to work.

Some people have had issues with twrp and 4.3. Try cwm or ouhds and see if the issue is fixed

Sometimes that second boot has taken up to 8 minutes on my device.  Right when I get ready to do the "three-finger salute" it boots up.  Just takes a really, really long time, in my experience at least.  I"ve used TWRP 2.5 exclusively and tried every 4.3 except actual CM...so far it always works, like I said, just takes longer than I a comfortable with :)

Just tried flashing PAC on cwm recovery and had the same issue. Waited 30 minutes at the boot logo and it never booted. Also tried cm10.2 on twrp and same thing. Guess 4.3 is not for me...

Wondered if I'd have the problem. Flashed Eclipse 4.3 and 2nd boot took a few extra seconds, but been normal ever since. Using TWRP 2.5

I was unable to to flash 4.3 using TWRP 2.5. However going to 2.6 I have not had any problems.

Since my original post I have tried TWRP 2.5 and 2.6 with different ROMs and I have tried CWM with Carbon and it is currently sitting at the red M as I type this.  I am sure that I am doing everything right,  if I wasn't it wouldn't boot the first time right?  I guess its not a huge deal if it can't be figured out but I wanna try out some 4.3!!!

If it boots once and works I would assume your doing everything right. Being as it happens on three recoveries something is going on though. What are your steps in flashing and when you power down after the first boot?

After you install the ROM, are you wiping again? Since thats the normal recommended steps, I will ass-u-me thats what you are doing.

When I did that, I had the same problem as you and couldnt figure it out. Then I did an install and did NOT do the wipe after and it all worked. Maybe try that.

I have been wiping cache and dalvik after each install but not data.  I can give that a shot.  I have been running 4.2.2 ROMs and I usually will reboot to recovery, make a backup, then I wipe data, system, cache and dalvik, then I install the new ROM zip and Gapps and reboot.  I go through some of the set up and get my google account attached etc.  Then I reboot and it hangs.  Its done that the same way on all of the ROMs I have tried.  Also, once it gets stuck at the M I can't get it to boot from a restored backup eiher.  I have to use Matt's Utility to get back to stock each time.  Seems very strange.

Also tried CWM Touch with the same build of Carbon.  Still won't boot the second time.  Idk,  I guess I will wait for some newer recoveries or something.

I had this problem. To fix it, I flashed my stock recovery back, then installed cyanogenmod for 4.2, then used the OTA updater through that to 4.3, then installed PAC. Worked for me, not sure why. Running TWRP 2.5

Hmmm.... That sounds interesting.  You flashed TWRP again before flashing CM right?  I will give that a try.
