Now that I've gone to ICS, the "Screen Timeout Widget" from the Play Store no longer works (I did an FDR before ICS, and when I tried to download the Screen Timeout Widget the widget itself never appears - I'm dialoguing with the developer). So I need something new for the MAXX.

What I need is something that will block the lockscreen function on the phone, and keep the screen unlocked and the backlight on for infinite duration. Because I have corporate email, the screen forces a lock when the backlight times out at two minutes (or 5, or whatever you set it to). What I want is to keep the screen on and unlocked when the phone sits on my desk at work connected to the charger, and when it is docked in the (non-Morotola) car kit (from ProclipUSA). If I can toggle between "infinite" and "2 minutes" the app would be perfect.

There are a lot of screen timeout apps at the Play store, but they usually keep the screen on when a particular app is running. Kill the app and the screen locks. That's why "Screen Timeout Widget" was perfect.

Anyone with any ideas?

I just downloaded Screen Timeout toggle widget. Works fine. It landed on the first page of my 5 home pages.

I tried that one but it wouldn't keep the light on (i.e., "never" didn't work). The link below is the one I tried and liked, but it doesn't work on ICS.

System Settings > Developer Options > Keep Awake.

This will keep your screen on as long as the phone is plugged in.

That didn't work for me in the car dock, plugged into the cigarette lighter running ICS.

Well it works, don't know what's wrong with your phone but it works on 99% of the other phones.

It used to work on mine before ICS. It might be because I had disabled the car dock app. All I know is I have that enabled and when using Google Navigation, the screen kept going black every 5 minutes.

With that setting though it should keep the screen on regardless of what app you're running, as long as the phone is charging. That's what it's supposed to do at least.

Unfortunately, none of these solutions work for me, either. I suspect that it is because I have a corporate email syncing to my device. This seems to override all the other security options, including those in developer mode (i.e., checking to keep the screen on when powered). Under Gingerbread, the VZW tech advised me to get an App that blocks the override, and recommended the one I cited above (see link in post #3), which worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, that isn't (yet?) compatible with ICS, and so the screen times out at about 5 minutes.

What I'm really hoping to accomplish is to keep the screen illuminated when docked/powered in a non-MOT car kit and connected to the car kit via Bluetooth. I'm currently trying the "Car Kit" app, but that doesn't keep ithe screen on, even though it has a check box that allegedly enables that functionality.

There's a new setting in Navigation, that I think is selected by default that dims the screen if there aren't any directions coming soon....

Thank you, thank you. Maybe that will solve the problem. I just found it and turned it off.

Screebl is set to keep the screen on when you have the phone tilted at a certain angle. When it's lying flat, it will time out. Otherwise, when it's tilted at an angle (such as propped up against a pen or in a car dock), it will keep the screen on indefinitely. You can even have it monitor if it senses movement even when at angle so that it WILL shut off if you haven't moved it for a few minutes.

I got it because while browsing web pages, unless I started touching the screen, it would time out. Since most people hold the phone at an angle when using it, Screebl senses the angle it's being held at and if it's past a certain degree from laying flat, it will keep the screen on.

And with screebl if you need to you can adjust the angle that it looks for. I have been using it since my OG Droid and love it.
