So has anyone taken a serious look into enabling the nfc chip in the razr? According to the teardown we have the chip, and we just need the software to make it work?

Near Field Communications, Unless someone has discovered something new about the Razr/Maxx, there is no NFC chip in it. There was talk at some point about the possibility of NFC capability being added through an sdcard with the technology built in.

It's short for Near Field Communication. It's what makes Google Wallet work.

moto has like three different sensors on the razr that aren't being used like the gyro, barometer and NFC. its prob just so that people buy there new phones instead of just sticking with and older model but still that messed up in a way way to leave us in the dust moto

I'll have to find the source, but I remember reading somewhere soon after the Razr's release that it contains an nfc chip but no antenna. There was also talk of motorola developing an sd card that had the antenna built in, but I haven't heard anything about it recently.
