OK, I have a rooted Razr Maxx if I remember correctly it is the XT912 and was running the JB OS. My phone had a prompt on the sceen this morning to do an update, so I hit Install thinking this would be just a simple phone update. Wrong!

Anyway phone shut down and restarted and the little green dude popped up showing it was updating and about 5 minutes later I got a little green dude on his back with an error type "!" on it....well I figured since the phone is rooted it just failed to update, which apparently it did.

Long story short after the green dude with the error went away it seemed to restart the phone but the screen stayed black! Now what gets me is the phone is "ON" like I'm still getting notifications and lights that blink with the notifications and I can turn volume up and down and all that but the problem is when I push the power button all I get is a black screen with what looks like a distorted looking line across the top half of the screen!

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks for the reply. That's the utility I used to root my phone and I would assume I need to use option 2 but I can't get the phone to the fastboot screen. It's like the phone is on and everyhting works but the screen wont show anything.

Hold all 3 buttons. It's like a battery pull. If it reboots you have to do it again and let go of the power button when the screen flashes after coming from power off.

Thank you!

Had to do it the second way by just letting the power button go! Never would've figured that out.

Thanks for the help, can I run it from "recovery" to see if that will work before using the RazrBlade utility or should I just use RazrBlade and be done with it?

And is option 2 the one I should use?

Thank You!

You run it from fastboot not recovery. Try option 2 but you may need a wipe (option 1) if that doesn't work. Let's get the phone working before worrying about root.

Well I tried to run the utility and when you open it and it prompts you to press any key to open program, I press a key and it just disappears?

You did not extract the zip file correctly. Use WinRar to extract it to your desktop and try again.

I think I'll start banging my head on the table now...

Still does the same thing...it happens fast but when I press a key and it goes away it says "an unexpected error occured"

to restore you phone and then take the update again.

I have downloaded this utility. I see that it suggests getting a new safestrap apk. Do I just download the latest and delete the older one from the link on the utility thread?

Also, I believe the root exploit uses Smart Tools. However, I froze SmartActions (or whatever it's called), then the OTA ran yesterday, so now I can't unfreeze smart tools (As I now suspect, I probably should have unfrozen everything, used rootkeeper to save the root (which I tried, but it didn't work), and then run the OTA update, and tried to restore root, but I didn't think of all that until it was too late). So, how do I get SmartActions back? Should I use option 1 on the utility and wipe all data? Probably, but I just want to make sure. Thanks!!

Replace the older file with the newer one, and change the name of the new file to the old file name so the script works.

You can try and use Option 2 first to try and keep your data, if that fails to work, then yes Option 1 will definitely work.
