Background info:

9.18.94.XT926

4.1.2 JB

9.8.1Q-94 Build

My phone was rooted for the longest time until the other day when I accidentally performed a factory data reset on my phone.  Superuser is still present but I may have unrooted myself.  I need the root to do the mobile hotspot hack, but apparently superuser is now denying everything automatically.

Do I have any hope of getting root back or any method to change the ROM or anything in the system to bring back root?

if your unlocked which I assume not, you could just flash supersu and be done. My guess is youre locked so you need to re-root most likely.

I actually tried rooting using the saferoot.  A new SU is installed along side with my old superuser.  Anytime SU tries to uninstall or do anything, superuser denies access to SU

I downloaded root explorer to try and delete all traces of superuser, but it says it needs root access!  I guess I am screwed!

If you uninstall the superuser and supersu apps then flash just the system partition with the correct version. You should be able to root just fine with the saferoot.

I can uninstall superSU just fine, but superuser is another story.

There is no uninstall option in the apps menu for superuser.  What do I use to uninstall superuser?

That seems strange to me that you did a data reset and lost root........ root lives in the system partition and is not affected by a data reset.......anyway.......Since you have in-fact done a FDR and have lost all/most of your data, you could do a FULL fxz using RSDlite or House of Moto..... then root using the safe root method.... then you should be fine .....

I used the house of moto to do a full fxz.

Does not seem to work. Superuser still there.  A bunch of preflash failure.

 Here is my log:

o] Connected to USB using your OEM cable
o] USB drivers are installed
o] Booted to AP Fastboot mode: [power off, hold volume down and press power]

Isn't that for firmware 9.30.1?  I have 9.18.94

I'm going to download that anyway.

Do I need to download the snapdragon stuff too?

Here to report back that everything works fine now!  Downloaded the proper fxz as you gave me and used house of moto to flash.  Saferoot rooted the phone and now I have my mobile hotspot again.  No need to sell my phone anymore!!! Thanks a bunch :D
