This is the txt vzw customer service sent me when i asked because store said no. I showed store, the called vzw, vzw confirmed, store said they would honor it. Thinking they have to. Hope this helps.

Yes this is exactly what I did....
I called VZW and explained that I was not happy with battery life and I was still under the worry free guarantee till jan15th. They said as long as I return the phones before the 15th, I could activate an old VZW phone till the Maxx was released, then I could purchase the Maxx at the "new activation" price, and pick up where I left off with the other phones. Only thing was it was going to cost me $35 ea phone. (i am doing 2 of them). So currently I am back on my old old moto razr, talk about nostalgia! lol. I am going stir crazy without a smartphone though!!! I think it will be worth it in the long run. Especially I am came from an EVO4G with an extended battery. I am assuming that this Maxx will have similar battery life as that.... all day 1 charge!
