That's where I have mineI moved the files to the system>media folder and the sound worked. I am working now on making it a little louder.

it worked... thanks Thach!Here is a copy of the sound file thats a little louder. Its located in teh Droid M folder.

Awesome, thanks! I used the loud version of the sound file from the Razr Maxx boot animation... just renamed it droidsm.ogg and it works like a charm. 
Rooted Razr Maxx!!

Sound is really nice on this. I went with the BlueHD Razr M animation and the new loud sound file. I never have set permissions when changing boot animations and they always work fine for me. Just throwing that out there. Keep up the great work devs.

I was having some trouble with this too. I followed the steps but the boot animation didn't work until I removed the old bootanimation.bak and droidhd.ogg.bak from the system/media folder. Once I did that, it worked great.
Maybe this will help fix anyone else having this issue. Sorry for the necrobump.
