I haven't rooted a phone in a long time...Droid X

I have been reading the forums now for a while but I have found nothing recent anyway of where to start for us that are not as versed.

My main reason for going with the root is I have a standard razr and I want to improve Battery life mostly but why not personalize it while I am at it.

Can someone give me direction?

I know I start with matts utility 1.81. then I am rooted. but then?

Is there tutorials on installing roms? Switching from one rom to another? Backing things up?

Maybe this already exsists and I apologize if it does. I just need to know where?

Thanks in advance it is greatly appreciated!

Yes, install and learn about Safestrap. It is basically the only supported "bootstrap" style recovery these days. If you know how to use CWM recovery, then you can understand safestrap quite quickly.

Once you've got safestrap going, feel free to flash away.
