[Xda] Pimp My Rom (Flashable Zip)
#1
Posted 04 October 2012 - 02:13 PM
I was flipping through Google reader (best app highly suggest it ) and I saw a lofehacker article linking to this XDA thread of a ROM add-on with a bunch of cool init.d scripts and other fun stuff you can flash on top of your current ROM whatever it is! I wanted to share the link with you guys and hear some feedback
I am downloading it right now but I'm not flashing it ATM BC I don't see the need for it in Israel and I want a phone as stable as possible (I'm on Flick now instead of some crazy jellybean nightly )
Please let me know how it goes for you guys and if it goes well I might give it a shot

Edit: I modified the "META-INF/com/google/android/aroma-config" file and changed the theme from miui4 to ics and now I can read the selections on aroma.
Has a TON of tweaks. I'll post some results after I experiment some more.

1. Take the META-INF folder from whatever ROM you're running and put it on your desktop.
2. Use 7zip to "Open Archive" of the "Pimp My ROM" zip file.
3. Copy the META-INF folder from your desktop into the root of the "Pimp My ROM" zip file.
4. Close out 7zip, put the zip on your sdcard and flash.
The issue is that the zip file for the "PMR" tweaks was apparently a previous zip file for a theme for a different phone. That's why the install aborts. It needs the META-INF folder of whatever ROM you're running in the zip file. Hope that helps everyone

Easy way to fix the install issue.

More specifically and per the OP,
- Open the zip of the rom you are running (the .zip file that you flash in recovery)
- Inside this zip, navigate to : META-INF/com/google/android
- Extract the file called "update-binary" and rename it to "update-binary-installer"
- Open Pimp my Rom's zip (i.e : PIMP_MY_ROM-v1.4.1-Universal.zip)
- Inside this zip, navigate to : META-INF/com/google/android and delete "updater-binary-installer"
- Now copy the "update-binary-installer" file you extracted from your rom to Pimp My Rom's zip (still in META-INF/com/google/android)
There's other "stuff" in the META-INF folder that needs to be there. If the one from your ROM overwrites the entire folder, the install should fail as well.

Pretty sure it will still work but whatever.

What OS option are you choosing when installing?

"/tmp/aroma-data/backup.prop" No such file or directory
Status 7 Aborted
Same thing happened on both files.
