hey everyone we here at droidrzr all of us know how much it means to stay in touch and be power users. weather you came to us with a stock issue no root or you wanted to bring out the full power of your device, you have all become part of this great family. that being said with the winter on its way and massive storm on its way... i wanted to give us a chance to really redifine not only what our phones can do but what our devs maybe able to do for us in these situations. the downside of a smart phone is the battery. most only last a day or 2 on standby so now we have the ability to offer a challenge to our devs for those on the east coast USA..
Some of our members will be without power for over a week. some less. but even with a super rom. battery may only last up to 3 days.. its better than nothing.. and power management will still be needed.

With the lovely storms and what not floating around. I thought it would be a great idea to maybe get some VERY EFFICIENT roms out.

these "emergancy" roms should be great on battery stock underclocked and 4g should not be an option just to save on battery

Functions needed for these roms are dialer MMS and maybe web browsing..

these need to be stable and clean. easy to see and operate. and did i mention GREAT ON BATTERY.

so for those of you devs that feel bad for the poor guys in the way of Sandy that will be without power for a day to a week

So Matt is working on one for razr

do we have any takers on the other devices we support here??

GREAT idea. I for one would that Rom on standby. It would also come in hand for camping trips and other potentially dangerous events like skiing and mountain climbing.

yes! A very good idea. If I had any clue how to make ROMS, I would, as I am currently expecting a visit from Sandy

Rom should also include the "emergency alerts" app. I would also say web browsing should be included for purposes of check on developments in catastrophic situations.

A featureless rom that makes phonecalls, sends text, and limited/no data would be the best freaking rom for the no brainer razr users...and myself...
I would deffinately slot up an edition of that and run for days with it boasting how it lasted more than a day...haha
Amazing idea.

I also forgot to mention with the beauty of SS3, we can switch to this ROM in seconds during time of an emergency

This could come in handy for a guy in my position. Too bad I don't have a Razr at the moment.

Mine's not working well, but here is what I can do instead...

ROM (DROID HD ROM, softkeys):

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

[Using soft keys and turning off the hard key backlights saves a bit more battery]

Ways you can save battery:
  • Open CPU Sleeper and follow the directions to turn it on. This turns off a CPU core when the phone is locked.
  • Turn Display down to Low.
  • Download Phone Info and set the radio to CDMA Auto (PRL) instead of the default one with LTE. This is essentially 3G only. Even better is doing this and turning off data.
  • Use CPU Control in Settings to turn the CPU down to 600 or 800 Mhz maximum.
  • Keep the phone in a strong signal area. Low signal or no signal = dead battery
  • Turn off Google Now and all your syncing from Google and other sites. (Remove with Root Explorer if you want to be super safe).
Some apps I recommend:
  • FEMA Official App by the US Government. Emergency information.
  • Weather.com for weather info (Or use the circle widget for that).
  • Droid Light for a flash light on your phone. Uses the LED.
  • Phone Info for setting 3G only (discussed above).
  • Twitter. Follow your local power provider if they have one. In the San Diego blackout last year SDG&E provided important and up to date information on power restoration through there.Maybe your area does too.
Stay safe folks!
