Ok, I did the Razr to Razr MAXX upgrade. Phone looks totally factory! I'm not sure when I re-flashed it, but it was reset at some point...I think. Anyway, phone reads itself as Razr MAXX, but with model number XT912 still. Any way of convincing it to be an XT916?

You should be able to open up build.prop in an editor (through Root Browser or something similar) and change it to XT916.
And congrats on doing it yourself. I was happy when I finished mine for cheaper than the upgrade kit from the cell phone parts site.
Edit: It is usually based on the ROM. Mine just reads DROID RAZR MAXX for Model number, and System version is XT912 but you can't change that as I believe Verizon sets that with the updates.

Yes you can get OTAs still. I did mine before ICS and was able to install. Really the only thing you changed is the battery. So the motherboard in your phone will still read as a regular RAZR to Verizon and the software for the two phones is exactly the same.Got the parts from them, but did it myself. So, any idea on whether it may 'correct' itself either with the to-be-released JB update or with MAXX-specific fastboot (if it ever exists). Or for that matter, could I even take the OTA at this point? Oh crud.

I was under the impression that a Razr Maxx was number XT916, with XT912 for the lessor Razr. So the number is based from the motherboard, eh? Cool. Glad I'm still OTA visible. I'm done here.

Yeah, no I'm sorry. You must have some misunderstanding. All og Razrs (Maxx and regular) are xt912 for CDMA (VZW) and xt910 for GSM. The Razr HD (both Maxx and regular) are xt926 for CDMA and xt925 for gsm. Xt907 for razr m. I have never heard of an xt916.

It is running an xt912 build. I know they are the same phones (Razr and Razr Maxx).
It's probably just the build.props.

Maybe 4G could be "activated" on other than US devices?
Maybe the NFC chip could be "activated" in our devices ?

This gave me hope:... 4g is a different network then what most of the world uses outside of the United States.
Unfortunately, my GSM device doesn't show that option -.-

Here's a screenshot of first part of build prop. I'm running a custom ROM but that number is unchanged. I can switch to stock rooted if you would liked me to confirm for you. It is xt912 though. Not quite, exactly, 4g is a different network then what most of the world uses outside of the United States. And, as far as I know, there is no NFC chip in the Droid Razr. Would anybody with a Droid Razr Maxx kindly confirm where in the build prop they have a similar or dissimilar number to XT912? I see were I can change the name from razor to razor max, but I will hold off on that until feedback on the number issue.
