Okay, looking for some thoughts.
My son has his own contract, is due for an upgrade, has unlimited data, but 3G. Shoot, he even gets a 23% discount because of his employer.
How can he get a new phone, but retain his unlimited data plan. He streams music and movies and TV through his phone to his TV, so he needs unlimited.
Ideas?

The 3g doesn't matter, data is data. So if he out right buys a 4g phone he'll still have unlimited.

So he could buy the phone from other than VZW and activate it, or does he have to go through Big Red so they recoup their costs?

No he could buy a phone from somewhere like swappa or even full price no contact from Amazon and swap sim cards or take it to Verizon and have it activate. Actually going from 3g 4g he'd have to go to Verizon for a new sim card.

Confirmed it works. I have a dumb phone line already for a "house" phone with upgrade available. Transferred the upgrade to another 2ndary line to upgrade my wife's iPhone4 to a iPhone5. Operator confirmed my current unlimited data plan will not change. Not 100% sure it would fly if it involves the primary line on the account, but the way my very friendly and helpful VZW customer service rep explained it I think it would work.

For someone like medic's son (post #22) this will not work. Must be an existing multi-line share plan with unlimited data.

I have a dumb phone with upgrade Dec 7th,..so i should be able to transfer that to my line and keep my unlimited data...correct? ( have the bionic thinking of making the change to razr m)

Don't waste time on the m, pick up the HTC dna or the note 2. The speed difference is rediculous. Both score twice the amount that any Motorola phone out has to offer. New razers do not impress me in any way.

Yeah but who wants to carry a tablet in their pocket or against their head? They remind me of the 80s when you would see parachute pants and headbands with a Jukebox on their shoulder. Soon the medical company will start modifying neck braces to hold your phone/tablet against your head. The new hands free device. :)

Have you actually seen the dna? It's almost the exact size of the bionic. The note 2 is 3/4 of a inch longer than bionic. Note 2 is actually smaller than original note

Yes I have used the DNA and set my Bionic next to it. It is an easy 25% larger and the Note 2 even more so.

Lol 25%...
Bionic 5.02*2.63*.43
Dna 5.55*2.78*.38

So half an inch longer, about an 1/8th wider. So about 10% size increase. Almost adds an inch to the screen and it's currently the best performing phone. It still fits in the pocket of my wife's skinny jeans so it's not that oversized. To each is own I guess. Myself ill take the slightly larger phone benchmarking above 19000 on a stock rom, then a phone that scores 1500-2000 more than my almost 2 year old bionic.

So, using those dimensions:

We get the volume of the BIONIC to be at 5.677118cu in and the DNA to be 5.86302 cu in.

Anyone can do the calculation themselves, but if you do it, you'll see it adds a total of:

10.55777 % in length
5.70342 % in width
-11.62791 % in thickness
16.86335 % area (screen)
3.27458 % in volume

Overall, this phone is really not that much bigger at all. But, that is owing to hte fact that it is so much thinner than the BIONIC. In terms of area, well, it's 16%+ bigger - and that can get mighty big in people with small hands (and especially those that think that the BIONIC is already big). Plus, when eyeballing it, it's easy to see when holding the device that this phone appears to be ~25% larger. Most people are going to refer to the size as the area, as opposed to the volume.

Reviving this, having a thought. I've got a family share plan with 4 lines. Two of which were upgraded and lost their unlimited data. I'm now up for my upgrade. If I transfer the upgrade to one of the lines that lost it's unlimited data, and order an S4 under that line from the website instead of the store or customer service. Have it delivered but never activate it.

I think the Bionic and S4 have different Sims so I can't just switch them, but if I take it into the store I wonder if they'll catch it and drop my unimited. Hmmm....

I should have a signature here...somewhere.

They shouldn't, just tell them you bought the phone and want to activate it on this line

Activating a different phone on your line should have no ill effect on your plan.  You can do it online even if you wish to avoid the hassle of going in.

I was told by a Verizon rep at the store just the other day, get a new phone by using one of the others upgrade and swap it to your unlimited.

If you buy from 3rd party online there is chance if it's not on the phone never you can get charged full price. Read small print with Newegg and wirefly
