I have been a big fan of Swype for quite some time, however the pre-installed version just does not seem the same. Has anyone tried to uninstall the version that came on the phone and reinstalled Swype beta?

You shouldn't even have to uninstall the preexisting version. Try installing Swype Beta without uninstalling first... Are you rooted? If so you can use Titanium Backup to Freeze/Uninstall system apps like the keyboard. If this is an option for you, make sure you have another keyboard as an in-between (if not just install any keyboard) then uninstall the system app using TB. Install Swype Beta and I don't see any reason for it not to work.

Taken from XDA via Droidlife:
Instructions:
1. Using Root Explorer ā Change your default input method to anything other than Swype.
2. Mount file system as R/W
3. Delete (or move/rename) \system\app\swype.apk
4. Delete (or move/rename) \data\dalvik-cache\system@app@Swype.apk@classes.dex
5. Delete (or move/rename) \system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
6. Reboot
7. Download and Run the latest Swype Beta installer*Note ā If you run into force closes after installing the beta, try removing Swype and the Swype Installer under Manage Apps, reboot and install the beta again.
I highly recommend you move or rename all of the files rather than deleting so that you will be able to replace them to get OTA updates in the future. I just added .bak to the end of them all. After following the steps and I'm up and running with the beta. It is a great improvement. I don't know why the official version is not as good as the beta, it makes no sense. They now use Dragon naturally speaking for voice recognition and the issue with no auto spacing in browsers is fixed.
Instructions:
*Proceed with caution. If you remove the wrong file, you could potentially soft brick your phone. And Iām not sure there are any files out there to bring you back from the dead for the RAZR.
