I was running stock 6.11.748, and I used your tool to root my Maxx, and install safestrap and OTA root keeper...

My question is this: do I need to follow these instruction as they are and downgrade back to un-rooted 6.11.748 and re-install everything to retain root after I go to 6.12.173? Or can I just start the process from step #6....?

Sick_Puppy, just choose your method of recovery to install, & be sure to save your su root w/ota rootsaver by voodoo & then choose the voodoo option to temp remove su -with backup- as clearly demonstrated w/plenty of screenshots, & you should feel confident in grabbing that OTA upgrade & you'll be fine.

In the end you go back & restore root & voila! 173 & root are yours!

Enjoy!

I followed the steps and I am rooted. However, I cannot get the update anymore (after rooting) and I cannot connect to verizon's network. My WiFi works great, but I just get a No Signal icon in place of 3G or 4G. So now I have a rooted media device instead of a phone. Any ideas as to what could have gone wrong? I tried to manually add the update zip to my sd card and load it through Bootstrap. It errors out.

I'd really appreciate anyone's help on this.

This is outdated. The best/easiest way is to take the update and use the Motofail exploit that works with 2.3.6. There is no need to use root keeper anymore.

Google and download Motofail or download the newest version of the utility and do it that way.

actually, there is still a reason to use Voodoo root protector- if you want to rent a movie fm Google, you can temporarily unroot b/c while they allow root-oriented apps on the market & sell the paid ones, you can't rent a movie if you are rooted - at least not fm Google, don't know about Amazon…
