So, here is the situation. I have a razr maxx that is on the jelly bean ota leak and it is rooted. I installed safestrap as a means to try some roms, but never got around to it. Now, I am having dead pixels show up on my screen and I am trying to get it replaced as it is only 3 months old. When I spoke to VZW last night, they indicated to me that if they detected that the software had been altered in any way, they would be charging me $299.99. I want to unroot it and take it to the VZW store and just play dumb with them so I can get it fixed. How do I got about doing this? Can I simply uninstall SS and the recovery, and then uninstall SU? I have never had to unroot before, so I apologize if these are dumb questions. Thanks in advance!

Look into doing a fastboot (returning the phone 100% stock). I don't have this phone, so I haven't done the research into doing it on this model.

There aren't any fastboot files for Jelly Bean. Follow the steps:

1. Delete all custom partition in Safestrap (keep stock)
2. Boot into Stock partition
3. Go to your Safestrap App and press "Uninstall Safestrap Recovery"
4. Uninstall Safestrap app from Android

As far as unrooting goes, I believe you can download a ROOT file browser, navigate to system/bin and remove the busybox and su binary. Make sure you have any instance of OTA Rootkeeper BACKED up root deleted. In otherwords, make sure it says "Protect Root" - this way you root isn't protected. If it doesn't say Protect Root, then it should say Unprotect Root.

Like I said, I'm not 100% sure if this cleanse your system of any modifications but I do know that it removes root & uninstalls SafeStrap. Your bootloader obviously hasn't been modified in anyway, and that's what they really look for.

If anyone has anything to add, post it here.

More than likely VZW just spits out crap. :D Many of us have returned our previously rooted phones and I dont know anyone that has been charged. I got a replacement back in December.

Since youve been rooted, there is no way to remove the qe code which says if you were or are rooted. As such the best you can do is remove Safestrap and do Factory reset/data wipes.

You could always use RAZR utility 1.82, option 1 it will go through with a few errors as it will not boot because your on jb, than run matts unbrick tool, have the jb,ota zip on sdcard and flash jb ota from stock recovery. That will put you at 100% stock jb, just, involves soft bricking Phone

In system/bin, is busybox listed as "bu"? I'm guessing that superuser binary is "su".

I'm thinking the su binary is in system/xbin along with the busybox binary.

Actually now that I look at /bin there is an "su" in there as well. Should that be deleted?

Yes I would. If you ever backed up root I'm thinking that's where it is stored.

No, that is not busy box.
Look in /system/xbin/busybox

The binary is called" busybox". No abbreviations.

Su is often symlinked to several locations. Delete Em all if it makes you feel safer.

I did this and unrooted using SU. Then when I rebooted I got the Safe Strap screen. I can't get rid of it for some reason, now I am unrooted and don't have Safe Strap app or SU app. Very stuck! Is there another way to get rid of Safe Strap?

You were supposed to Remove SS Recovery while you had root and then Delete the SS app itself......I think you will need to re-root, re-install SS, and then do it correctly.
