So I really prefer to have the screen stay awake while plugged in to power. In the developer options the "stay awake" function is greyed out and I can't check the box. Any idea how to fix this? My previous Droids have not done this to me...

Just checked mine and I can select it just fine. Are you sure you have Developer Options turned on? Keeping the screen on while charging may not be a great idea with an AMOLED screen though. That's asking for premature burn-in.
