You assume there is a rooting process. NOT a safe assumption to make.

Yea, people don't get it. They just assume cause "we've always had root before"...

On a serious note, after doing some tinkering, I think the Bionic may be in the same scope as the HD when it comes to root. It seems to have a lot of the same structure, but different than the RAZR, D4, M and Atrix HD. I would be super cautious. I do have 2 damaged Bionics that I plan to make 1 from to do the serious test when it comes. I would be patient and don't start crack flashing downloads of the soak without some research first.

Who are you kidding? People are going to be so excited to get the update, they're going to flash it the minute they get it without thinking, then complain loudly that they have no root. Bionic users aren't used to not having a working root exploit. Gingerbread we had motofail....which was written for razr. ICS we had razr's edge, which was written for razr. The new razr exploit probably won't work for us and Bionic users have never been in that situation. They take for granted that "we just have root". Well, surprise, we may not. And people who are unprepared are going to learn a very hard lesson about that if none of the root exploits work.

Samurai is funny. But he's right too. People just expect root. Not the case.

I'm wanting OTA JB 4.1.2 for my stock slot but I won't install it until/unless we have a successful root exploit. My SS 3.11 with 4.0.4 is working just fine thank you. Loving the ability to test 4.2.2.

I was on 5.9.902 &/or .230 until Nov. 2012. Yes I'm patient. I reinstalled my entire phone using rsd 5.9.905 then all the legit OTA updates to my current stock 4.0.4 (.246). It's my way of testing "perfectly".

We'll be able to keep root through the OTA. It's not difficult. Follow these steps:

o) Update to the LATEST SU binary
o) Install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper
o) Protect root
o) Temp unroot
o) Install the OTA
o) Restore root

That's worked on all the other phones and I don't expect we'll have any problems doing the same. However, if we do not have a working exploit for Bionic JB 4.1.2, the moment you have to flash system for any reason, you are done and won't be able to recover root. That means no FXZ. If we have a working root exploit, then no problem and we're good to go. But, that remains to be seen.

No going back to ICS? Can we flash jb in a slot for safe strap? So security updated like from gingerbread to ics?

You forgot to list Update to the LATEST SU binary 3 more times because people are going to complain about losing root because they didn't read it the first time

Those that use root should not be average users. They should know that there are steps they need to take to protect it. It's not like they just ran a script to install root without knowing how it works or something.... :)

Don't worry Sam. I've been keeping up with your stuff (read: reading through your threads/posts) since last summer when all the ics hullabaloo started over at droid forums.net. I've used your hob twice without a hitch and have decided to stay put until all the dust settles with our jb. If it matters at all, I won't be a pain in your rear end and understand most of the intricacies involved in the situation and respect all your support for our bionics. Plus, liquid smooth is running great for me, so who needs an older os?

I have a "junk" bionic with radio/no signal/reboot issues. As stated in the other thread, I'm willing to turn it into a tester for jb root.

I'll probably have to apply the OTA thru the SD in recovery though, it only stays powered on for about 3 minutes before it reboots on the stock ROM.

I have two damaged bionics that will become one soon just for testing purposes as well. Just have to do a little brain surgery first.
