Good idea - btw, watch what the text shows as it goes so you can tell us what you see if there is a problem.  Just saying it didn't work doesn't give us much to go on.

Yes, exactly.  THIS

I KNOW it says no support for Windows users, and I'm not asking for any. I am, however brainstorming on ways to do it anyway. No support doesn't ALWAYS translate to impossible. Just a few days ago there was no root for JB and a few months ago there was no viable kexec kernel. Before that, were countless other impossibilities.

If I get something working, we're all enjoying breakfast at Milliway's on me.

Something for n00bs using a VM arrangement especially - watch the copy/paste function if you are copying the commands from a browser and bringing them into the VM.  It doesn't play as well as it could.   Buggered me the first few attempts.

First of all thanks so much Dan for making this root a reality for Bionic and I will be sending a donation when I get this working!! I'm running ubuntu v12.04 LTS from a USB stick and am having a little trouble.  There seems to be some kind of problem when trying to install the samba package and then later restarting the sever doesn't work.  This is what happens when I go through the terminal commands:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ mkdir /tmp/share
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install samba
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 samba : Depends: samba-common (= 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2) but 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.3 is to be installed
Depends: libwbclient0 (= 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2) but 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.3 is to be installed
Recommends: tdb-tools but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf

I know. Missed it the first time and wasn't verbose on the tablet. I'm getting install failed already exists like with motochopper. Everything else finished without error.

no, no it doesn't. Liar. so much linux code has mac equivalent commands but i have to find them one at a time and their dependencies and learn context so i can actually issue commands. And I thought fxzing was tedious..

Dan suggests, and I agree, that you want to remove any previous Superuser apps before using this.

Your samba package isn't complete.  I suggest trying to update prior to running the install samba

No problem.  We want to see more success stories rolling in.  I know the basic premise works as I have root back.  But I want to see others running this and getting root back, as well.
