Nope, works for me, and I just flashed the same ROM as you're on.

Hey all. I am having the same video issue, as well. "Can't play video" . I am on Byte's 07/14/13 kernel

No idea... maybe try the stock kernel?

If I can't reproduce it, there's not much I can do without people sending me specific (logcat, kmesg, dmsg) information.

I've never used ByteCode's kernel, I'm on the kernel all our roms have shipped with, and I do not experience this issue at all.

I've played videos from instagram, gallery, vine, and netflix, all with no hiccups whatsoever. I'm not responsible for someone else's kernel.

To clarify, I'm using your stock kernel and no mods whatsoever to your 7-14 release and cannot playback video captured on this same phone.  If there are specific log files you'd like, just let me know where to drop them.

EDIT: Another issue since I've decided to go ahead and speak up is the menu button.  The only time I can get it to appear is if I edit the ROM Settings menu to force it to always be there either visible or invisible.  Default behavior yields no 3-dot menu in most apps.

EDITTED EDIT: My menu q is answered, thanks Chris420o and msassounian both.

I would be happy to send any log files needed if you tell me what to send as well.

there's a setting in one of the menus that is default unchecked..."show menu button within apps" or something like that.  if you like to have the app menu buttons go find that setting and check it....i just can't remember exactly where it is.

and also, i'm running the kernel that comes with this rom.  i flashed it via the OTA, and nothing else.....

Hope you got it. If not please let me know and I'll send you logs of whatever you need. I dont believe this is Kernel related. Thanks bro for all your work!

Let me show you what I've got it narrowed down to.... maybe some of the developers here can figure out where this is coming from. I tried reverting all the sound-related commits for the past couple weeks with no success. Yes, I believe this is related to sound encoding, not video:

all I can say is the GPS thing is gone for me, but the video issue remains.  I see that someone has already given a log, pcaranza let me know if you'd benefit from more and I'll get them to you.

EDIT: The fact that a thumbnail is viewable on the videos seems to support the theory that this isn't in fact a video issue but ancillary such as audio for whatever that's worth.

Yes, an OTA update patched it. 7-17-13.

Yes, more logcats would be great and maybe a dmesg/kmsg dump.

I'm embarrassed to say that I have not as yet done a pure test with your ROM/gapps and absolutely no app restore whatsoever.  While I don't have any kernels or audio apps I know there are a great many MANY things that could factor in.  I am doing a full backup now after which I will flash just 7-17 and the signed gapps and try a video.  I have done a logcat before but I am not familiar with the dmesg/kmsg dump.  I'll post back with what I find.

EDIT: the full wipe and re-flash yielded the same result on playback but I had to do so through the file manager as my media was not seen by the gallery app.  I say this as I don't know if it is related or not.  Logcats emailed to you pcarenza and thank you as always.

That's a good observation and could possibly be relevant. .Thanks for following through - I'll do my part!
