Thanks for the link. So if i read this correctly, the factory cable should be able to charge my phone if the standard charging cable provided with the phone doesn't work, right?

No... the factory cable (adapter) is wired specially to provide power to the main board .... specifically for programming (flashing) :)

If you can boot to safestrap, do so and then let it charge there.  Charging is supported with safestrap 3+.

So I am not sure what exactly happened but I was able to get the phone to charge and now all is well. That was very odd and unnerving.
Thanks for the advice.

I know I've had a problem before and it turned out to be the cable was bad. I've had this happen with car chargers, wall charges, usb cables. Sometime, after a while, it appears that a short happens inside the cable. I've found wiggling it works sometimes. But then, if you move the cable or phone, it then shorts out and quits charging.

I've also found that not every wall charger works for the RAZR. I've tried using older cables for non-Smart phones and they don't work. I've also found those that do charge, but when you try to use the phone while charging, things act really weird, such as touching a particular spot on the phone doesn't register there but it registers elsewhere so the action you want to perform doesn't occur.

Glad you got it all worked out though. Hopefully it's not signs of the phone and/or battery going bad.
