Hello all, I have a few questions regarding a root I was planning on doing later today. I wanted to play it safe and consult some people here before moving forward as I don't want to cause any harm to my device. My phone is using V98.16.3 XT907 4.1.2 and I was wondering which steps I was to be using to gain root access. I've read several articles here but they all say to use those steps for a different version other than mine. Which should I be using? Or is there one at all? Thankyou in advance on any information you can supply and I apologize if this topic has already been discussed or if I am double posting.

Would a root working for 98.18.78 also work for my 98.16.3?

If you are on 98-16-3 then use the original moto chopper for root and unlock that thing with motopocalypse before you update! Then root will never be an issue. Sent From My DEV X

I thought .3 and .78 were the same update but with a different version #?  If that's the case, he'll need to use your Motochopper 1.3.

No it's the .16 which goes to .18 or .20(which are the same). The .16 is still before the update that killed the BL unlock

Alright, but I could've sworn I've seen people try to unlock .3 and it failed for the same reason as .78.  I thought I saw somewhere that they were the same updates but the version number was different depending on whether or not people took the previous soak vs. the actual OTA.  I might be getting versions mixed up, though.

Yeah those people had already updated and tried to flash back and unlock. You are right about the 2 versions but it was .16 ->.19 -> .20(soak or MR4) and .16 -> .18 OTA/MR2

Alright should I back anything up before attempting this? The only thing I've ever done was jailbreak an iPhone so I'm a bit new to this. It says in the instructions that this won't delete any of my phones contents, is that correct? Just wanna make sure I don't need to offload anything before rooting.

Also appreciate the help!

Nope doesn't touch anything in that regard. However, it is always good practice to back up anyway. Weird things happen at the most inopportune times usually.

I didn't think the whole BL thing was an option anymore? Or is it still an option for my version?

As long as you have never taken the OTA up to .18 or .20 then your version .16 "should" unlock...

Yea this is the only update ever downloaded to the device. Even when I "check for updates" it tells me the phone is up to date.

Also, thanks to everyone for the quick replys and assistance!

I am extremely lost. After downloading the file, there is no option to unzip it. The file is not zipped. It is an exe file.
