Prepare to be ticked

Stupid move by moto. Im not going to go out and buy a razr hd to just be able to unlock a bootloader. They should release this for all devices like htc did.

I suggest everyone start going to moto's facebook and twitter and voice we want to be added to this online tool. It worked for the evo3d users with htc and it could work for us.

I dont think its all verizon. The rezound, tbolt and all dinc's can use htc dev. Then again look at the sg3 mess.

well according to a few on xda the razr will never get this. not that i care too much becuase my razr runs fine as is but it would be nice to have other options. ill have to carefully weigh my options when im looking for a new phone, heck i may even just switch to tmobile to get away from verizon and their policies. i do know if the razr hd gets unlocked their is going to be some ticked off razr customers.

I agree that the Razr will probably never get unlocked. The Devs are doing a tremendous job with the bootloader the way it is. I rarely miss my unlocked Nexus bootloader. I'm just really hoping that Moto makes the next Nexus device. Man I'd love a Nexus Maxx lol.

I think that with google restructuring moto the way they are, we may see our RAZR unlocked.

I'm sure Moto is not the roadblock on the Razr's path to freedom.

An unlocked RAZR with no warranty that you buy from Motorola at full retail price.

Motorola could unlock their phones as well but at the cost of lost marketing by Verizon. Do you wonder why Verizon markets Motorola phones like crazy but not others?

I'm guessing this is the answer to it all. When you think about it, the vast majority of ads you see from Verizon are for Moto phones. My guess is that Moto can unlock them if they want but at the cost of losing the free advertising that Verizon does for them. Seems to be the only answer when you look at the other companies that allow unlocks and Moto who doesn't. It would explain Verizon saying they aren't stopping them and Moto saying Verizon won't allow it.

I think it's more complicated than that. You're probably right about WHY they're locked. Moto made a major deal with Verizon for the Droid campaign. Who knows how many years that agreement was for. Why they aren't unlocking them, from what I understand, is HOW they are locked, like burning out a fuse. Once it's gone, it's gone. It's not just a software fix to unlock at that point. That would explain why only certain phones are unlockable. Maybe someone with better info can shed more light on it all.

Motorola has tweeted that unlocking older devices "is not in the plan". So us Razr owners are SOL.
